About Us

Caskie Opticians was founded in 1982 by Howard Caskie, one of only two Ophthalmic Opticians in Northern Ireland who is also a qualified pharmacist. Situated at the top of Main Street in Limavady, Caskie Opticians has served the local community and the north coast continuously for over 35 years.

As the practice gained a good reputation and our patient base grew, the decision to move to our current, larger premises was made in 1984. Since then, the practice has evolved and developed to stay at the forefront of patient care - from several renovations to expand our frame display areas, to completely rebuilding the entire property in 2013.

With the rebuild came a full suite of the latest diagnostic equipment, an on-site laboratory, a dedicated dispensing room and full disability access and facilities. The most recent purchase of an OCT allows the practice to maintain its position at the top for patient care in the Northwest.

The practice team are some of the best in the business and are dedicated to providing the best patient experience possible. Howard’s son Glenn joined the business in 2012 as a qualified optometrist after graduating from the University of Bradford. After several years working in a laser eye surgery company based in York he decided to return to Limavady, his home town, to provide the highest quality eye care. Glenn has gone on to gain professional certification in Medical Retina which specialises in care and treatment for patients with Diabetes and Macular Degeneration, attain further qualifications in Glaucoma management & treatment and is currently studying to become Limavady’s first Independent Prescribing Optometrist affording him the ability to write prescriptions for our patients and reduce the need to be referred to secondary care elsewhere.

Matthew Corbett joined the team in 2012 initially as a laboratory technician but over the next 3 years he qualified as a Dispensing optician and is now our trusted Practice manager.

Howard set up the practice in the heart of the local community where his family has lived for many generations. A focus on care and quality along with a close working relationship with local GP’s and the regional hospital eye department ensure our patients have returned to us time and time again. It is not uncommon to have treated over 5 generations of the same family! Howard is a founding member of the Limavady Diabetic Society because of the effects it can have on eye health and is a keen member of the Northern Ireland Optometric Society… he also manages to squeeze in the occasional Rotary meeting!

Feel free to ask our team any questions you may have - they'll be more than happy to help.
